Our Constitution

Name

The name of the association shall be Muslim Parents Association - High Wycombe, (MPA), to be referred to as the association.

 

Aims & Objectives

      to work for a system of state education in the High Wycombe area of the highest quality for all children.
         
      to unite Muslim parents of the Wycombe area on one platform in the education field.
         
      to collect and disseminate information about the local and national system of education, to Muslim parents in the Wycombe area in particular, and to facilitate discussion aimed at its improvement.
         
      to promote better communication between Muslim parents and elected representatives, education officials, teachers, parents, governors and others interested in education.
         
      to make representations to the local education authority, national government and other bodies.
         

      to support Muslim parents administratively and morally in their correspondence with education institutions and authorities or at times of appeals of any nature, in the field of education.

         
      to raise parents awareness of their rights and obligations as far as the education of their children is concerned.  
         
      to fight against racism, and discrimination on other grounds, and to co-operate with other organisations with similar objectives.
         
      to ensure all children, young people and adults have equal access to education
         
      opportunity, regardless of family income, race, sex or religion.
         
      to do all things necessary within the law of the land.

       

 

Membership and Subscription

Membership of MPA shall be open, on payment of the appropriate subscription, to all Muslims resident or working in the High Wycombe area and to such other persons as the executive committee may approve. The annual subscription shall be determined by the AGM by a majority of members present and voting.

 

The association shall be empowered to raise money by other means and to employ staff as appropriate.

All members are to agree and conform to the constitution.

 

No member will have the authority to represent the association except for the officers and members of the executive committee who have prior permission of the executive committee.

 

Exceutive Committee

Shall consist of chairman, secretary, vice chairman and treasurer and not less than 10 other members, these officers and members to be elected at the AGM. The committee shall have power to co-opt up to 3 additional members and to fill casual vacancies, such members to hold office until the next AGM.

 

The committee shall have power to set up sub committees and to open a bank account.

A quorum for executive committee meetings shall be one third of the membership of the committee and of whom at least one shall be an officer.

 

The executive committee shall normally meet quarterly. Other members of the association shall be entitled to attend meetings of the executive committee as observers.

 

Annual General Meeting

Shall normally be held in January each year. Members shall be given at least 14 days notice of the AGM.

 

Bank Account

Any two of the four officers shall be required to sign cheques and audited accounts should be presented by the Treasurer at the AGM. 2 Auditors may be elected at the AGM, from the membership, but not executive committee members, for the following year.

 

Amendments to the constitution

Amendments to the constitution may be made only at the AGM, or a properly convened Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), and shall require a two thirds majority of those present and voting, all being members of the association. The text of any proposed amendments must be circulated to all members at least 14 days before the meeting.

 

Meetings of the Association

General meetings shall be called by the executive committee. At least 7 days notice should be given. An EGM shall be called by the executive committee upon the written request of at least 10 members.

 

Eligibility to Vote

Only members of the Association shall be eligible to hold office, to serve on sub committees of the executive committee or the executive committee itself, or vote at association meetings.

 

Association

Muslim Parents Association to be strictly non-party-political and non sectarian.

 

Dissolution

In the event of a decision to wind up the Association, any remaining funds shall be donated to a body with similar aims.
